About this tool

The IP lookup combines a few different data sources into a single answer. Geolocation data comes from public IP-to-location databases, which infer where an address is registered based on regional internet registries (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC) and ISP-reported routing data. Hostname information is resolved through reverse DNS (PTR records) where the operator has configured one.

The "ISP" and "Organization" fields come from WHOIS records and BGP data — they identify the entity that announces or leases the IP. The ASN (Autonomous System Number) tells you the network identifier, which is useful if you want to see whether two IPs belong to the same backbone.

How accurate is the location?

City-level accuracy is decent for most residential ISPs in well-mapped countries — typically within the correct metro area. It gets worse for mobile carriers, VPN exits, and datacenter IPs, because those addresses often route traffic from users far from the registration point. For IPs in less-mapped regions, you'll sometimes only get country-level data.

What about my privacy?

We don't store the IPs you look up beyond a short-lived cache used to reduce upstream API calls. We don't link lookups to any account (there is no account) and we don't sell or share lookup history. Read our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
